Prolonged periods. Taking femillon tablets as contraceptives, stopped, heavy periods. Treatment?

Hi,

I am 30 years old. I just got married last month. I had started femillon tablets a month before my wedding as contraceptives. HOwever, on taking these, my periods continued till the 14th day. I again consulted a doctor( a different one this time as I was travelling) she advised me to stop the pills, as they probably werent suiting me. I got full periods mid-cycle as soon as I stopped and she told me it is normal. 14 days later, I got my periods again, but this time, flow is extremely heavy. I otherwise have regular flow, and here I am on my 5th day with heavy flows. Please advice urgently, as it is elading to extreme weakness.

thanx

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Whenever you are taking contraceptive pills it is very important to take them regularly or else they can use irregular periods or contraceptive failure. Stopping them mid cycle will cause a period which happened with you. For immediate relief you can take medications containing tranexemic acid which will reduce the flow. Also you can try some other contraceptive pill which might suit you.

Advised for supracervical hysterectomy. Cyst in the ovaries, fibroids in uterus. Need information on laparoscopic surgery

I was advised of the need for a supracervical hysterectomy . Remove both ovaries, both fallopian tubes and uterus (leaving cervix ). I ve had four ultrasounds and one MRI since January 2012. Cysts in the right ovary continue to get bigger. Cyst in left ovary has disappeared for now. have fibroids in uterus and in ovaries (I believe?) as well. My obgyn , who I really like – and he has delivered my children, said HE would perform a c-section type hysterectomy. Or, if I would like to try laprascopic, he will refer me to a colleague to see if I am a candidate. Comments are very much appreciated.

I understand that you want to conceive. Firstly it’s important to keep your thyroid status normal. Secondly chocolate cysts on your ovary means you have endometriosis. Many people with endometriosis don’t ovulate, so you should get checked regarding the same. Deviry will help you to regulate periods to some extend, but it doesn’t help to conceive. You can also get a laparoscopy done for chocolate. cysts.

Irregular periods, twice or thrice a year. Taking cycloset medication. Side effects on fertility?

Hi,

I am 22 years old, and started getting periods at the age of 14. Since the time it started it was never regular. On an average, i get it twice or thrice a year. Since the past 3 months I am having Cycloset. I wanted to know a cure for the issue and whether i will have issues in getting pregnant in future and what are the other health issues I may have to face.

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Irregular periods in itself will not harm your health but reason why they are can. This can be due to thyroid problems, poly cystic ovaries or simply hormonal imbalance. It would be a good idea to get it investigated and know why your periods are irregular.

Pregnant. What does it mean by placenta is posterior in position and placenta maturity grade III?

I am 37 weeks pregnant & have the ultrasound yesterday. it shows placenta is posterior in position and placenta maturity grade III. what does it means? if i have a chance of normal delivery or c-section . How i can have a normal delivery , i am very much scared of c-section.kindly help me out.

thanks.

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Placenta is situated inside the uterus either on anterior, posterior or lateral walls. As long it is not low lying its situation does not matter. Placental maturity reflects how mature your placenta is. Grade 3 means your placenta is fully mature. At 37 weeks if your baby is growing well and you don’t have high blood pressure I won’t worry about it. Your placenta’s position and maturity certainly doesn’t mean you need a C-section. All the best.

Is it normal to have brown smelly discharge after 7 weeks of delivery?

I am having a brown smelly discharge over seven week since I gave birth to my baby is it normal I am worry about Bcoz at time of delivery my placenta came out in pieces and dr have got no clues how much was left and got two Fabrioid got no clues they shrink back or no

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Hi

Although some bleeding can continue for about 6 weeks of pregnancy but smelly discharge is not normal. You might be having some infection or there can be bits of placenta still inside. If you are having tummy ache and fever the possibly is more. You need to see a doctor who would do a vaginal swab and a ultrasound. Further treatment depends on the results.

Is it possible to be pregnant 4 days after unprotected sex and taking postinor 2 as recommended?

Good morning. Please, is it possible for lady to test pregnant 4days after unprotected sex, even though she used postinor 2 corectly...which was an hou after the sex and subsequently, 12 hours after d first dosage as instructed? Could it be a false positive?

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Hi

It is not possible to have a urine test 4 days after sex showing that a women is pregnant due to that episode of unprotected sex. It can be false positive in which case you can repeat it or get a blood test. By having a blood test you can have some idea of the duration of pregnancy.

What all treatments should be done to conceive after having 2 abortions?

Hi Doc,

my name is Ria. On December 2012 I had a miscarriage of 1 month and then again I got pregnant in April 2013. But, again after 3 months I had to terminate my baby(as per doctor) because heart beat was not found. I am in dilemma now. I want to get pregnant within this year end.

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Hi

I am very sorry for your losses. Unlike popular opinion abortions are very common and most women have successful pregnancies after 2 abortions. I would encourage you to follow healthy lifestyle and cut down smoking and alcohol. Also you can get a blood test to see whether you are immune to rubella or not. If not, it is advisable to get vaccinated before pregnancy as catching it during pregnancy can harm the baby. Please also take .4mg of folic acid daily while trying to conceive.

Will fever during pregnancy affect baby?

I'm about 8 weeks pregnant, and the whole time I have had a fever of anywhere between 99.3 to around 99.8. Two days ago my Dr. called in a script for a UTI and I have been taking it faithfully....do I need to worry about how this fever is affecting the baby? I haven't been taking Tylonel....

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Hi

Low grade fever usually does not harm a pregnancy in whatever stage; it is the high or very high fever that is harmful. Please be careful about your genital hygiene as the vagina is very vulnerable to infections during pregnancy and with an urinary tract infection, you need to be extra careful. Please have adequate rest, good diet and adequate water. Make sure that you have been prescribed medication safe in pregnancy; Tylenol can be used in pregnancy. Hope your query has been classified. Wish you good health.

PCOS, not on medication, irregularity in period continued after stopping medicines. What should be done?

Hi

Hi ,I am 25 years old. my periods have been irregular for quite some times mow..i have PCOS and i am not on medication but i m trying to loose weight.two months back i had a heavy bleeding which lasted for a whole one month when i visited my she had prescribed Regestrone 5mg tablets for 21 days.after taking the medicine it stopped and again had for 5 days..but once again its irregular.what should i do now?? my doc also said try loosing weight and it might become normal without meds..but as of now its hard to loose weight and my irregular periods continues.also i have becoming a moreand more depressed, mood swings are regular, libido has dropped down and acne and facial hair makes my life hell..i would appreciate your reply and thank you in advance. thank you

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Hi

Losing weight will definitely help you with PCOS and irregular periods so although hard I would encourage you to keep trying. In the meanwhile you can take medicine containing cyproterone acetate and oestrogen like Diane 35 . It is a basically a contraceptive which will regulate your periods and also help with acne and facial hair. It won't help with libido but if you feel better about yourself that might itself raise your libido. Ofcourse as the drug is a contraceptive you cannot take it if you are trying to conceive. Let me know if you have any more queries.

Irregular periods, labs show high testosterone levels. Recurring symptoms after stopping krimson. Suggestion?

hi ,

I have irregular periods problem,i have done all the test my all test report normal except Testtistrone my Testistrone level was bit high(80) so my doctor suggest me to take tab (Krimson 35) for three months after that the level came down to 54 then she stopped it but after that also i am getting the same problem..plz can u suggest me what to do...

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Hi

Taking Krimson 35 for high testosterone was absolutely right as it lowers testosterone, regulates periods and provides contraception. One of the common reasons of having irregular periods and high testosterone is polycystic ovaries.I would suggest to continue Krimson for 3 months more, infact you can keep taking it if you desire contraception.

On Microgynon. Taken antibiotics for kidney infection. Pain in side, stings to urinate. Should I stop pill?

Hi,

About a month ago I started going on birth control (Micrognyon), a couple of weeks after I developed a very painful kidney infection . When my GP put me on anti biotics it began to leave my body, however it still wasn t fully gone, so the doctor put me back on the same Anti Biotics ( Penicillin ). However, when I was off the anti biotics, I began drinking alcohol again and sleeping with my partner again and it has seemed to return again! Although it is no way near as bad as it was, my side is very painful and it stings a little bit to urinate. I first slept with my partner in August and through the August/September time I was absolutely fine when he was using protection with no problems. I am starting to think it is something to do with my birth control pills. Do you think I should come off the pill for a month and start to use protection? Or perhaps change to another pill? I would greatly appreciate your help

Thanks, Katie Lillywhite

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Hi

Urine infections are sometimes very difficult to treat and require the right antibiotic. Firstly make sure a urine culture has been done and the antibiotic you are taking is the right one. Secondly intercourse increases chances of having a urine infection so you are having recurrent infections using a condom would be a good idea. Lastly, birth control pills do not cause urine infection , so you might want to continue them for added protection. Please remember some antibiotics reduce the effectiveness of these pills and cause unintentional pregnancies. Let me know if you have any other queries

What could be the cause of runny nose, poor weight gain and yellow diarrhea in infant after mother eats dairy products?

If I take milk or food that contains milk my baby girl passes stool around 15 times a day. its yellowish in color and runny. She often suffers from blocked or runny nose. Has a poor weight gain too. six kg at six month. No extra food other than breast milk is given. tanzin

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Hi

It seems like your little girl has got cow's milk allergy. The milk/ milk containing products that you eat pass to your baby through breast milk. I would suggest that you stop taking milk and milk products completely for 15 days and see if there is any change in the symptoms. If you are not drinking milk make sure that you get enough calcium.

Does VRDL negative and TPHA positive affect the foetus ?

hello doctor.

I had VDRL negative and TPHA positive. The doctor i asked here in our country states that no need for treatment since it represents only old infection.is this true?can i still transmit the disease to the fetus?can i still have a physical contact?

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Hi

Your doctor is right in advising you about syphilis. VDRL negative means you have no active disease and thus can not transmit it to the baby. You can also have sex safely. I would also advise you to get tested for HIV and Hepatitis B as well. Let me know if you have any more queries.

What could be the reason for having spotting and a heavy feeling in abdomen during pregnancy?

Hi,

I've had 2 abortions by taking cytotec. 3 months ago I had a natural miscarriage at 12 weekks, the fetus stopped growing at 8 weeks. I'm currently 6 weeks 4 days pregnant and spotting with a heavy feeling in my abdomen. Do you think it's another miscarriage?

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Hi

You must be really worried about this. Firstly let me tell you that after one natural miscarriage your chances of another successful pregnancy are more than 90%. Secondly spotting with heavy feeling might mean an imminent miscarriage but not necessarily. Many women have spotting in early weeks and then continue to have a completely normal pregnancy. There is nothing you or doctors can do to make a miscarriage happen or to stop it. It would be good idea to get an ultrasound done. In the meanwhile keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.

What are the possibility of getting pregnant at early menopause?

I am extremely tired and have to take power naps during the day, I am starting to get heartburn regularly after eating, I'm 47 have started early menopause have the mirana and an active sex life. All symptoms are the same as when I was pregnant, could I be pregnant even at this stage, I was very fertile before.

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Hi

The symptoms which you stated are of pregnancy but also of just being tired. Chances of getting pregnant at 47 with a mirena are extremely low but not zero. I would advise not to get stressed about it and get a urine pregnancy test for your piece of mind. Let me know if you have any more queries.

I am afraid to take as previously I developed cyst by taking this medicine. kindy advise.

Hi

Congratulations on your pregnancy. The cysts on your ovary were most likely de to clomid and not duphaston. Therefore you can take duphaston if you want without fear of cyst.

Should I take abortion medicines even while having pregnancy symptoms like vomiting and sore breast?

On 21 December 2013 I took a home preggo test it came positive same day in evening I felt light browny discharge, next day on Sunday I started bleeding fast , I came to emergency room dr did a scan he measured 5 weeks 4 days with early fetal pole and said everything is going good , he prescribed me some medicines and injection to be safe from miscarriage . Then on last Monday on 6th January my dr rescan and measured on weeks machine measured same 6 weeks with sac 20mm and only one white bright dot she saw . She said I think it stopped growing or missed alive and said to take abortion medicines but I refused to take them Bcz I thought it's to early to decide so dr pls suggest me the right decision ...! I have some symptoms of pregnancy like vomiting , breast sore, constipation so what's that ? She again asked me wait 10 days on my request !

Reply of Dr. Deepti Gupta

Hi

I understand how distressed you may be feeling. Your doctor suggested that you have abortion medicines because the foetus hasn't grown as expected and probably because she can not see a heartbeat. I understand you are feeling unsure because of your pregnancy symptoms. I feel the best approach in such cases is to wait for a week / 10 days. after that you can get another scan and be absolutely sure of the diagnosis. There is absolutely no harm in waiting. Also if the fetus is not growing sometimes nature can take its own course and you might miscarry on your own without any medication. All the best. Let me know if you have any more queries.
